Community Mental Health Counsellor

We are looking for an experienced counsellor to join our team and help us ensure continued support for families. Please note that this counsellor will work with the family/friends supporting a person with mental health challenges/illnesses, rather than with those individuals themselves. Click here to read about our SOS Famille program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling
  • Proven experience working with families
  • Knowledge of mental illness
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to empathize with clients
  • Bilingual (English, French)
  • Interest in working in a community nonprofit organization

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Evaluate clients’ needs and create an intervention plan
  • Help individuals with the resources needed to reach personal goals
  • Monitor client progress and adjust intervention plan as needed
  • Take part in other relevant tasks necessary for the functioning of the organization

Supervision (individually and in group) is provided.

We are located in Montreal. Some remote work may be possible.

Compensation: Salaried position: Remuneration and benefits are based on the organization’s salary scale (salary is based on a full time starting salary of $53,000 annually).

Support Services Department (SSD) Assistant

 Support Services Department (SSD) Assistant (9 weeks)

30 hours per week at $20/h

As our Support Services Department Assistant, you’ll provide vital administrative support while learning about community health services and member support, culminating in improved systems and resources for ACCM’s membership.

Job duties:

  • Update and maintain member records in our Penelope database system
  • Support member intake procedures and documentation
  • Assist with organizing and facilitating support groups
  • Create and maintain comprehensive resource lists for members
  • Help prepare program materials
  • Assist with basic statistical reporting and data entry

Ideal Candidate:

  • Passionate about community health and support services
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation abilities
  • Comfortable with database systems and digital tools
  • Demonstrates sensitivity when working with diverse communities
  • Between 15-30 years old (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)
  • Bilingual French/English an asset

Archives and Events Assistant

Archives and Events Assistant (9 weeks)

30 hours per week at $20/h

Help preserve ACCM’s rich community history! As our Archives and Events Assistant, you’ll organize our historical documents while learning about Montreal’s HIV/AIDS activism and 2SLGBTQ+ history to culminate in an AIDS in Montreal archive exhibit in partnership with Fierté Montreal.

Job duties:

  • Develop and implement organization systems for ACCM’s historical archives
  • Catalog and digitize important community materials and oral histories
  • Create accessible physical and digital filing systems
  • Document archival procedures and create user-friendly guides
  • Collaborate with the Pride committee on exhibition development
  • Support the planning and installation of the Fierté Montreal archive exhibit

Ideal Candidate:

  • Passionate about 2SLGBTQ+ community history and preservation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable with digital tools and handling physical documents
  • Demonstrates sensitivity when working with community members and materials
  • Between 15-30 years old (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)

Hear Québec: Graphic Designer

Hear Québec is seeking a dedicated and creative Graphic Designer with web & marketing experience to join our team. This role involves designing content for both print and digital platforms, including our bi-annual magazine, website, and social media channels.

Major responsibilities:

  • Create initial design concepts by developing rough layouts, including the arrangement, size, typography, style, and aesthetic
  • Submit rough layouts to the Executive Director for approval
  • Finalize designs by preparing copy and artwork, using typesetting, printing, and related equipment.
  • Preparing final layouts by marking and pasting up finished copy and art
  • Complete projects by coordinating with internal team members and, when necessary, external agencies, art services, printers, and other partners
  • Graphically design and produce a bi-annual magazine
  • Collaborate with the team in the creation of documents for a bi-annual magazine
  • Develop and implement advertising campaigns for a bi-annual magazine
  • Search and identify potential and new opportunities
  • Evaluate advertising strategies
  • Review and update website content while coordinating the process among the different team members

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator
  • You must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment to be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs.
  • Permanent resident of Canada, Canadian Citizens, or legally permitted and protected under the Immigration and Refugee protection during the period of employment.

Canvas of Connection: An Intergenerational Art Project Recap

Canvas of Connection was a 6-month intergenerational art program designed to bridge the gap between English-speaking seniors and high school youth living in Saint-Laurent. Through monthly art sessions facilitated by professional artists, participants explored a variety of art forms while building meaningful relationships across generations. Together, the seniors and youth co-created a multimedia “Art Hive”—a collaborative scrapbook that celebrates cultural and generational diversity through shared stories, artwork, and creative expression.
