DESTA is Hiring – Re-entry Clinical Social Worker
Employment type: Part-time 20 hours per week (18-month term with the possibility of renewal)

Compensation: $54,000 – $60,000 for 20 hours per week

Based in Little Burgundy and serving participants across Greater Montreal, DESTA offers access to a hub of services and partnerships that empower the Black community through programs rooted in social and economic justice. The Opportunity:
DESTA’s Re-entry Clinical Social Worker will provide holistic counseling and/or psychotherapy services to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people participating in DESTA’s Re-entry Program.
Responsibilities:
Performs psychosocial assessments on current and/or formerly incarcerated individuals, who are preparing for release, in transitional housing, or who have a history of involvement with the criminal justice system.
Supports current and/or formerly incarcerated people with mental health needs, using a variety of culturally appropriate and trauma-informed approaches.
Provides crisis intervention, brief therapy, and/or short-term supportive counseling, and psychotherapy to clients/participants.
Provides individual and/or group psychotherapy for clients/participants who require support for psychological issues arising from incarceration and/or involvement with the criminal justice system.
Implements evidence-informed treatment plans for each client/participant to promote successful re-entry and transition back to the community, following incarceration.
Monitors client/participant progress on an ongoing basis and modifies the treatment plan as appropriate and in consultation and collaboration with team members, and other health professionals (i.e. psychologist, etc.), as required.
Completes required documentation and reporting in a timely manner and participates in case management / case consultation meetings.
Establishes and maintains links with other community organizations/partners within the Little Burgundy/Sud-Ouest area and Greater Montreal.
Travels to and from designated sites (i.e. Desta) to provide counseling, psychotherapy and/or treatment services.
Provides training, guidance and support to colleagues who are not fully licensed as mental health providers (i.e. trainees, interns, students, etc.).
Assists in the development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social work and registration or eligibility for registration with Order of Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists of Quebec (OTSTCFQ) or a professional who has obtained a psychotherapist’s permit with the Order of Psychologists of Québec / Ordre des psychologue du Québec (OPQ).
Minimum one (1) year work experience in clinical counseling and/or psychotherapy; experience using a variety of counseling modalities including cognitive and behavioural therapies.
Experience in a broad range of clinical skills including but not limited to conducting psychological and risk assessments and evaluations, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention.
Experience working with common mental health disorders and diagnoses such as Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, grief, etc.
Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, organizational, time management and self-care skills.
Collaborative work approach and able to work well in a team-based environment; able to provide supervision to trainers, interns, students and other team members.
Able to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend shifts when required/scheduled.
Strong understanding and a commitment to social justice and underlying values of community health and restorative justice.
Knowledge of issues impacting incarcerated and previously incarcerated people.
Experience working with incarcerated and/or formerly incarcerated people, and/or experience working in a correctional environment (institution or community-based) is considered an asset.
Additional Assets:
Experience working in a non-profit environment.
An understanding of issues facing the Anglophone Black Community in Montreal and issues related to racial equity and social justice.
